Hiroki Totoki spoke in depth on what his plans for PlayStation are. He mentioned that they are committed to launching only 6 out of the 12 mentioned live service games by March 2026. About this, Totoki said “We are reviewing this. So the titles… we have not been able to meet the gamers’ expectations, but we are trying as much as possible that this would be played by the gamers and liked by gamers for a long time.”

The release schedule for the remaining six live service games is yet to be determined. Sony maintains a long-term commitment to expanding live service offerings, emphasizing a focus on quality rather than sticking to specific titles. The company’s policy underscores the importance of delivering high-quality gaming experiences.

Sony initially announced their plans in February 2022 to launch more than 10 live service games by March 2026. Notable studio acquisitions, including Bungie, Haven Studios, and Firewalk Studios, were part of this strategy. Destiny developer Bungie played a role in assessing Sony’s live service game portfolio, leveraging its expertise in the genre. The review process reportedly led to the scaling back of some live service projects.
