The director and co-writer of the critically acclaimed “The Last of Us” gaming series, Neil  Druckmann, is excited as well as terrified for the upcoming live-action adaptation of his masterpiece. On social media, he shared that some of the important people in his life are eagerly waiting for the premiere.

Tel Aviv–born Druckmann started the game-developing studio, Naughty Dog, as an intern. After the initial efforts for adapting, the game with Sam Raimi failed miserably. Neil found hope in the writer of the highly acclaimed HBO original “Chernobyl”, Craig Mazin. Mazin was already an avid follower of the games, and it didn’t take them long to click with their mutual love of storytelling and ‘The Last of Us’.

Soon they sat with each other to discuss a new adaptation that will be true to the tones and messages that the original game wanted to deliver. And the offspring of this collaboration was the upcoming HBO Max original with the same name, starring ‘Game of Thrones’ famed Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as the leads.

As the release date of the series is almost at the doors, the realization of the expectation set with the series is slowly creeping in on Neil. Over that, having his family members being highly anticipating the premier, Neil couldn’t be more tensed. On Twitter, Druckmann shared, “My parents are so ready for Sunday! Wait! Is it really only two days from now?! Someone hold me… I’m scared!”

In a recent interview with VanityFair, Druckmann shared, “I have some family members and friends that are not gamers, so they’ve heard about the game, but they never got to experience the story of Joel and Ellie. I’m really curious for people like that to see how the story lands with them. Where do they think the story is going? I think it’s going to surprise them. Likewise, I’m excited for hardcore fans to see a whole new set of artists inspired by the original game.”
