Last month, legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk revealed how the inspired video game series, Pro Skater series, has reached the end of its road. Apparently, this happened after Blizzard absorbed Vicarious Visions, the brain behind Pro Skater 1+2. As it happens, Activision did have plans for a Pro Skater 3+4 remake but didn’t like any of the pitches it received from studios regarding the same.

The revelation had left a lot of fans upset. However, Tony Hawk has managed to light up a part of his fandom with a new announcement. A couple of days ago, notable NFT-based video game developer, The Sandbox, announced its partnership with Tony Hawk and Autograph. Autograph is another leading NFT platform owned by popular NFL star, Tom Brady.
Tony Hawk to build the largest virtual skatepark ever made
According to an exciting press release from The Sandbox, Hawk will enter the paradise of metaverse by building a huge Tony Hawk Land in the game. The Sandbox is actually an NFT-based game that lets players buy land with cryptocurrency. Tony Hawk happens to own a 6×6 land in the game and will be establishing the park on it.

In addition to the virtual skateboarding park, Hawk’s partnership with Autograph will also produce other NFT-based merchandise for fans to collect. This includes NFTs based on Tony Hawk’s avatar, his iconic skateboards, equipment, and apparel.

Not only this, but The Sandbox will also attempt to make these NFTs functional in the skateboarding park they are creating. “The Sandbox will make these NFTs interoperable in its open metaverse, turning Autograph’s high-fidelity avatars into 3D voxel versions that have in-game functionality for experiences, adding utility and value for their owners.” the press release read.
Birdman had previously released a line of NFTs in December last year. The collection, known as ‘Last Trick’, found huge popularity but also faced backlash from a fraction of his fan base.
Although it seems exciting for NFT fans, Tony Hawk’s upcoming offering isn’t for everybody. Like last time, Tony Hawk’s next venture into the controversial world of NFTs may cause fans to lash out again.
