While Bandai Namco and FromSoftware are preparing for the launch of Elden Ring, the game appears to be in a serious state already. Because according to an alleged claim, the Dark Souls 3 team of devs may not be able to protect the upcoming open-world fantasy RPG from multiple vulnerabilities.

Recently, a person who tried to shed light on Dark Souls having issues in its online gameplay, alleged that Elden Ring, on PC, might face a similar fate, as reported by VGC.

Will Elden Ring remain free from online hacks and cheaters?

Last month, Bandai Namco momentarily shut down the servers for Dark Souls after finding out the issues related to various exploits. They were found in Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3. It happened after a person discovered a remote code execution (RCE) exploit across all these entries.

Basically, the RCE is used to give access to abusers to take control of other players’ PC while playing Dark Souls online.

However, the person who found this problem revealed that despite making Bandai Namco aware of the vulnerability, the team took no action for a long time. And that it only closed the servers recently, in January, after the issue attracted public attention.

According to this person, who wished to remain anonymous, the upcoming Elden Ring may also have the same vulnerability. Simply put, the fantasy RPG might arrive with the issue of RCE upon its launch. Which will be troublesome for the most anticipated game of the year (so far).

In case you missed it, the Dark Souls games have seen instances of hacking. And most of these situations have involved PC players who were at risk. They reported that while playing one of the titles in the series, they were hacked and their in-game items were broken. The hacker had left the individual with hacked items. And the player was simply helpless, unable to do anything about it.

And this same problem can also occur in Elden Ring. If it comes out with the same weakness found in the Dark Souls titles.

Although it’s confirmed to have anti-cheat system upon launch, that won’t necessarily solve all the issues. FromSoftware will have to make sure that Elden Ring is immune to any kind of RCE when it arrives.

Highly awaited Elden Ring is releasing on February 25, 2022, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
