So Harry Potter seemingly has a winning edge over Resident Evil according to the fans! As the nominations for The Game Awards 2023 are out, it has left some sections of the community fuming. Apparently, it’s not just about the Xbox fans but the Potterheads too, who had rooted for Hogwarts Legacy to be on the nomination list. While the role-playing adventure couldn’t make it to any of the TGA nominations, the title’s fans are expressing their disappointment with some other titles that weren’t their ‘ideal choice’.
Over the years, TGA has become a symbol of celebrating the growing evolution of eSports. Gaming fans and critics from across the world celebrate the rising standards of the virtual world each year. But the hype around TGA is surreal this time, testifying to the exhilarating lineup enthusiasts had the chance to experience during the year. With so many elite names to choose from, some had to unfortunately miss out on the nominee list. However, did Hogwarts Legacy just lose its fair shot at becoming the GOTY?

While Nintendo and PlayStation titles found a significant number of place in the TGA nominations across various categories, Hogwarts Legacy couldn’t manage to make it to any of the nominations. This came as a big surprise for a lot of the gaming enthusiasts who had their bets on Avalanche Software’s creation. The GOTY nominations include Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Baldur’s Gate 3, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Apparently, the announcement didn’t sit well with the gamers who had been enjoying the virtual adaptation of Harry Potter.

An X account addressing their disappointment on the platform wrote, “Hogwarts Legacy did not get a single nomination for The Game Awards 2023. This is a tragedy and an injustice.”
It is important to note that TGA nominations are selected by a jury that accounts for 90% of the decision-making. Only the rest 10% is dependent on fan polls. So, the decision mostly means the critics felt the Harry Potter adaptation fell short on some parameters. Fans, however, have an entirely different take.
Fans call the decision ‘politics’
The disappointed fans didn’t shy away from calling out the jury and their decision to ignore Hogwarts Legacy. Moreover, some alleged that the Capcom remake didn’t deserve to be on the list of GOTY. Here are some of the reactions that deserve your attention.
A user calls out the ‘politics played by the community’, which evidently ignored the game from the elite wing. Some bold claims!
I think the politics played a role for them to just ignore it existed.
But these same panels still voted on Bungie's Destiny despite the studio laying off so many people and slowly imploding.

A player brings the heat on the Capcom remake and believes the Avalanche Software’s title should have been nominated instead of RE4.
It should have been in there over RE4 Remake

Some fans have already crowned the title as their ‘Game of the Year’, and there are not a lot of counterarguments seen!
It's my game of the year.

Another user believes the title should have been there instead of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as they call it a ‘Spider-Bug 2’.
The game awards can no longer be taken seriously. HL is such a good game and something new but an SM2 ala Spider Bug 2 DLC gets so many innovations. Whoever pays more gets more nominations or the famous blacklist rules
