Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is out and, unsurprisingly, has already started making the headlines. However, the recent buzz around the game is contrary to what the developers would have hoped. The game ever since its beta run has been subjected to a lot of glitches, but fans were still rooting for a better experience post the final launch. Well, it seems like the game is still a work in progress because another bug report has been recently added to the list of issues spoiling the experience in MW3.
Following the heat Modern Warfare 2 had received, fans had high hopes for the follow-up project. Unfortunately, the campaign for the new Call of Duty project has been met with a mixed reception. Apparently, a recent issue that has been addressed in the game will only make things worse for the ongoing scrutiny. Here’s why the TTK (Time-to-Kill) inconsistency issue is inviting strong backlash.

While the single-player mode was being criticized and labelled a DLC experience, the multiplayer mode hasn’t been received any better. There have been a series of complaints about various inconsistencies and glitches in the mode. Moreover, the Armor unlock system introduced in the latest installment has also been widely rejected by players. But are the TTK issues the final nail in the coffin?
- What is TTK?
When evaluating a weapon’s utility, TTK (Time-to-Kill) is one of the most crucial variables to consider. This is especially true for Modern Warfare 3’s SMGs (submachine guns). Experienced players have an advantage in this fast-paced, tactical third iteration of the legendary Call of Duty series because they are familiar with the premise.
A Reddit user took to their social media and wrote, “What the F*CK is this ttk inconsistency?! The movement is nice and (more) fluid… but what good is pulling great flanks or rotations when you shoot first, get 8 torso hit markers, and then die to someone using the same gun AND started shooting after you? The amount of shoot-first-die-first is INSANE, especially when you literally count 6-8 hit markers, and the death reports said you were killed in 4 hits.”

What’s interesting is that earlier, following the Beta, Sledgehammer Games Design Director, Zach Hodson talked about the reason for the TTK. In an interview with NME, he said, “One of the big things we focused on was when you play that much, you want to get better. You want to feel like your investment of time is actually yielding some results, otherwise it ends up feeling like a very flat experience. We found that when we increased the TTK, it felt like there was progress being made.”
Whatever the reason for the TTK, the issues with the TTK have not gone down well with players. The rant on the TTK issue turned into a heated backlash in no time after other players joined in the discussion.
Fans share their experiences
Evidently, there were a lot of unhappy fans facing the same issue and they didn’t shy away from expressing their angst against the bug.
A user straightaway called the latest Activision launch ‘cr*p’ and wrote, “Game is cr*p so far. Same thing is happening to me. Shoot first die first.”
Another user who is extremely disappointed with how the TTK is functioning in the game wrote, “Yep, couple of hours in and the TTK is horrific.”

A player came up with a theory for the issues happening with the system. “My theory is that there are several systems that are screwing with hit registration one is lag compensation (I think it is over compensating), another from what I’ve seen are most weapons that have limb damage modifiers that are less generous than the previous title, and players are moving way faster so if it’s not matching a with a priority on connection it will probably lend to more inaccuracies on part of the server. So between lag comp, faster players, and limb hits it may feel just crap.”
“I have been experiencing this a lot too, I was always under the impression especially with the slower TTK that whoever shoots first on target will get the kill (provided they’re not movement kings) but the amount of times I’ve unloaded nearly a full mag and gotten swiped is ridiculous and vice versa,” another disappointed FPS fanatic ranted.
Have CoD titles failed to match the brilliance of the Cold War? A user raises an interesting thought as they reminisce about the glory days of the Cold War, writing, “I went back to Cold War and it feels a billion times better lol. Current COD titles are so bad.”
