Epic Games is an American video game company famous for developing the fan-favorite battle royale game Fortnite. Initially, they built this battle royale title as a multi-platform game, including Apple iOS and Google Android. But it was removed from mobile phones after Epic Games’ dispute with Apple.
Epic Games co-founder wants the US government to pass OAMA
Epic Games were unhappy with the 30 percent revenue cut that Apple took for purchase made using their methods. The former wanted Apple to allow other in-app purchasing methods or decrease the rate. But the founders of Fortnite lost the appeal, and the iPhone makers won the case.
This Apple monopoly has been a problem for many developers. So, companies like WEpic Games wanted to see its end and have a considerably fairer way in the dealings. The European Union has passed the Digital Market Act (DMA), which will come into full action in 2024 and end the Apple monopoly in Europe.
Because of DMA, Apple now has to allow alternative app stores and in-app purchase methods. Epic Games co-founder Mark Rein sees it as a big win and urges the American government to pass the Open App Market Act (OAMA). It will end the superior hold of Apple on the app market in America.

Rein appreciated DHH for presenting his take on this matter and wrote, “I completely agree it will be GOOD FOR APPLE to change their behavior. Shame on US politicians for not being first here but they still need to pass the OAMA to ensure US devs are not disadvantaged.”
What would happen after the abolition of Apple’s monopoly?
The abolition of Apple’s monopoly would lead the upcoming and independent developers to flourish without fearing massive revenue cuts. Further, it could also allow Epic Games to release their own app store for mobile devices, and games like Fortnite could also return to mobile.
