In the world of gaming, rarely any other company can stand beside the giants, Xbox and PlayStation. These two gaming hardware manufacturers and publishers dominate the global market. But there is one sector that both of the juggernauts haven’t completely tapped into yet, the Chinese market.

But with their recent announcement, it is expected that Sony’s PlayStation may get the upper hand in the battle for the East-Asian market. Against their arch-rival Microsoft’s Xbox. Sony has announced its new venture, “The PlayStation China Hero Project” which will take great measures to support and help the Chinese gaming scene.
On Tuesday, November 22, 2022, Sony stated that they are planning to invest a large sum in their Chinese program. The “China Hero Project” will identify and incubate Chinese-made games. This is to build up their reputation in the market and potentially get an advantage over Microsoft.
Sony PlayStation plans to take over the Chinese Gaming Market
As reported by Reuters, Sony is planning to invest around 1 million yuan, which is equivalent to $140,080 in their Chinese venture. Sony’s director of China game production, Bao Bo, said that Sony will invest this sum in each game they enroll. They will not only fund big teams but also small teams with dozens of developers or more.

The China Hero Project was grounded during the pandemic. But with a live-streamed event from the southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu, Sony has confirmed that the project will resume. Sony has confirmed that they will publish Lost Soul Aside and Convallaria, in the first two seasons of the program.

According to Bao, “The scale of the third season will far exceed the previous two”, giving hope to the fans that the future of PlayStation will be very impressive in the Chinese market. There is a huge potential waiting for the company and its fans, as the project only plans to go forward from this point onwards.
There are reports that suggest that this race for the Chinese market began with PlayStation’s success with “Genshin Impact”. The game’s huge popularity inspired Microsoft to aggressively attract Chinese developers with lucrative licensing deals for Xbox.
