There was news previously indicating that Ubisoft had been cleaning house by canceling a bunch of projects. These projects were being canceled in order to make it easier for their developers to complete the production of the games that matter the most. It is being said that their focus has now shifted from developing too many titles at once to just a bunch of important games and the Assassin’s Creed series.

A recent rumor suggests that the latest victim of this string of cancellations is a game from a beloved Ubisoft franchise.

Splinter Cell is one of Ubisoft’s oldest franchises; in fact, it is one of the prime AAA stealth-action franchises. Fans have been playing games in this series for the longest time now which spans multiple generations and numerous types of consoles. From PlayStation 2 to Nintendo DS, at least one game has been released on almost every console.

But now, it’s been a while since fans have seen Sam Fisher embark on a new adventure, and this is bugging them. The last he was seen was in Ghost Recon: Wildlands as part of a DLC where he paid respect to his old rival Snake, the protagonist of Metal Gear Solid games.

So, it only makes sense if Ubisoft had plans to bring this series back with a bang. They have already announced the remake of the original game. But according to a 4chan user, another game was in development, and now, due to things being shaken up at Ubisoft, they have decided to pull the plug on it.

The now-archived thread also mentions that this game was set to be announced in 2022, but Ubisoft kept delaying the announcement for some unknown reason. And by the looks of it, the game might not be making it anytime soon. Now the genuinity of the source is up for debate, because of which this information should be taken with a pinch of salt. Here’s hoping they keep Splinter Cell Remake going, as that is the main attraction for most gamers currently.
