If Nintendo were a person, it would be a person living the dream. One of its latest games Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is selling like hotcakes, and it might even win GOTY. Its current-generation console is pretty successful. It’s so successful that they do not see the need to announce it yet.

Even though it is rumored to be in production, the Nintendo Switch 2 remains out of public view. But it looks like one of Nintendo’s third-party partners does not want that console to be a secret anymore. One of them seems to have their hands on a devkit.

Recently, a Spanish Youtuber going by the name of Nash Weedle mentioned that Nintendo Switch 2 dev kits have finally arrived in his country. This small revelation, which can even be classified as speculation, has caused a lot of confusion in the gaming community.

Many do not even believe this rumor. Those who do have started wondering what studio actually has that development kit. The second most obvious question is, How did this information get out? Was it revealed deliberately by someone, or was it a leak?

The answer to the first question is an easy one. Currently, there are only two major studios in Spain working on major Nintendo Switch titles. One of them is The Game Kitchen, the studio working on the popular Metroidvania Souls Like Blasphemous. They are currently working on the sequel to that game.

The second studio is even bigger; yes, indeed, we are talking about Mercury Steam. The legendary developer of Metroid Dread, a game that finally revived the 2D Metroid series with that 2021 masterpiece. Previous rumors have suggested that they are actually working on a sequel to Dread, which would launch simultaneously for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Whichever one of these studios lets this information slip out is at risk of ruining their relationship with the Japanese giant. Nintendo is very secretive about its new announcements, and they would not want their plans to go into shambles due to these small slip-ups.
