GTA VI used to be the source of many unconfirmed speculations until Rockstar Games gave the much-anticipated nod to its existence a few months back. The popular creators of many critically acclaimed video games have reportedly been working on GTA VI for a few years now.
Back in February this year, Rockstar Games announced a next-gen console version for the popular GTA V alongside confirming that they are working on the next Grand Theft Auto title. While the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions for GTA V were released in March, fans are still awaiting further information on GTA VI.

Many may think that Rockstar Games may not be fully devoted to GTA 6’s production. After all, the publisher has been focusing on remastering old games lately. Some leaks had even revealed the studio’s plans to bring Red Dead Redemption I and GTA IV remasters. However, a recent report has claimed otherwise.
Rockstar Games is reportedly devoted to GTA 6 now
While a previous leak confirmed upcoming RDR and GTA IV remasters, a report from Kotaku seems to talk differently. According to Zack Zwiezen, a writer at Kotaku, sources have confirmed that the anticipated remasters have been ‘shelved’.

The sources have also confirmed that Rockstar Games is now aiming to bring GTA VI out as soon as possible. But why would the company disband the idea of remastering two epic titles? The sources reportedly answered that burning question too!
I can confirm that Rockstar is focusing on GTA 6 instead of making more remasters. Sources tell me that a big factor for shelving the remasters was the GTA Trilogy being so hated/awful. https://t.co/lmegwudyIt

As it happens, Rockstar Games had endured heavy criticism due to multiple issues in the Trilogy remaster from last year. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was released back in 2021. It included remasters of three iconic stories belonging to the original trilogy, including GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas.
As the Trilogy remaster failed to meet fan expectations, Rockstar Games decided to scrap the RDR and GTA IV remasters too. Furthermore, the publisher is now working on GTA VI without keeping any distractions. You can take a look at the report from Kotaku here.
Following this report, Zack also added that the remasters may still happen. But, it’s unlikely for fans to see any remasters before the release of GTA VI.

HOWEVER, the remasters could and might still happen, but at this point, it likely won't be until after GTA 6 is released as the publisher is VERY focused on getting that game out the door.

Rockstar Games will probably take a long time from here to release the next installment in the franchise. However, knowing that the company is devoted to GTA VI’s release should provide some satisfaction to fans.
