After being stuck in development for almost seven long years, Team Ninja’s highly anticipated open-world RPG, based on the historical 19th-century Japanese Edo period, finally has an official release date. While there is still a veil of mysteries attached to the game, recent reports and leaks have revealed fascinating aspects of the upcoming PlayStation title. 

Previously, Team Ninja had delivered many great RPGs. Among them, the Nioh franchise is their most acclaimed title. Team Ninja games are renowned for their flawless implementation of the Soulslike formula (a genre spawned by FromSoftware games). However, there has been some speculation saying the new Ronin game to take a new path. 

The Rise of Ronin is finally coming out!

While the studio is already catching the eye of the masses thanks to the release of their massively anticipated game based on the Chinese epic, ‘Journey to the West’ characters, called ‘Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty’, Team Ninja is also attracting the attention of the community with the latest of their passion projects, ‘Rise of Ronin’. 

According to the team, they are currently hoping to release the game by 2024, as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. RoR will be an Open world/RPG with a Deep/dark story focusing on “the most critical revolution in the history of Japan including the darkest and ugliest chapters that many will shy away from”. it was also revealed that the game would have heavy choice-based options. Every choice that the players will make will have a direct influence on the story.

Much like Witcher 3 from CD Projekt RED and Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2, Rise of Ronin will also have horses as the primary means of transportation. The open nature of the game is very apparent in the theming. Making a Rogue Ronin, who has no loyalties to anyone, gives complete freedom to the players to weave their own narratives. 

The combat will be featuring ‘Deadly combat with katanas and other blades and firearms’ as the main weapons. The current release date is 2024. However, there haven’t been any reports regarding the exact date as to when the game will be available in 2024.
