Valorant is a game that has a trend of rapidly changing metas with each patch. Riot Games is always keen on making its precious FPS shooter stand out with their constant and custom-tailored updates. These not only shake up the meta but changes the entire dynamics of the game.
And a current trend that players were using/exploring was the use of Stinger. The sub-machine gun became the go-to gun for eco rounds of many players, and there were debates about the gun being overpowered for its price point. Now, Riot games have addressed this issue with a shake-up coming in 6.02.

Valorant has delayed their 6.02 updates, changing the track of their 2-week update trend. This time the players will get the new updates on February 7. The biggest nerf that is coming into the game in this patch would surely be the nerf of the sub-machine gun stinger.
For our NA players, we know we skipped the 6.02 PBE and we wanted to give the heads up. Likewise, we wanted to inform our pro VCT competitors as early as possible.

The introduction of Episode 6 reshaped the whole meta of the game. Chamber, who was the most picked agent in the game, got nerfed so hard that his pick rate crashed down. The other interesting aspect was the increase in the use of Stinger in the game. Especially during the eco-rounds. The gun was devastating to face against, and if you lose the first round, surely you might face an enemy who would have bought the stinger for round 2.
Stinger changes for Patch 6.02:
Cost increased 950 >>> 1100
Damage Fall-off Change:
27 damage per bullet (0 – 15m)
23 damage per bullet (15m+)Previously:
27 damage per bullet (0 – 20m)
25 damage per bullet (20m+)— VALORANT (@PlayVALORANT) February 4, 2023
Now, the gun is hit with a hard nerf. The cost of the Stinger has been increased to 1100 from 950. Additionally, the damage fall-off rate has also been changed. Earlier, 27 damage per bullet was for a 20-meter range, and it would drop to 25 when the range became 20+ meters. Now, at close range (up to 15 m) the damage is 27. And the fall-off happens from 15 meters. That is the damage is capped at 23 for 15 + meters.

These nerfs came soon after the gun was getting recognized to be overpowered in pro competitions. During the Pro City matches that Tarik hosts, many pro players were abusing the gun’s potential.

The same was also seen in regard to the ongoing Challengers League North America. The gun got recognized to be the best one for its price range by many players, and thus it met with the same fate as Chamber.

These patches will change the gun use rate, especially in eco-rounds. Chances are people might go back to using a Sheriff or a Marshal more after these nerfs.
