Resident Evil 4 is back after so many years, and we got to try a demo of its new and improved self. For one, the game looks just gorgeous. Even though it was running on a PS5 in performance mode, it still looked too good.
The environments of this game remind us straight of those in VII. But the most distinguishing factor about this game from its original is the fact that this time around, developers have decided to do some environmental storytelling.
Every dead body, wall, and open window serves a purpose, either in telling a story or in being part of some gameplay mechanic. The demo started where normally the game starts. We have to find the president’s daughter, and we walk through a forest into a shanty town. We witness the inhabitants of this town sacrificing a policeman on a pyre.
We have to find a way ahead, so we start shooting everyone in sight. We even make use of some environmental hazards that are new to this game. Eventually, a man with a mask and a chainsaw in hand walks into the playground.

As we run from building to building, jumping from windows at the last second, we are just asked to survive. The gun when firing feels way punchier. Maybe it’s due to the Dualsense implementation. Even though the game itself ran in normal difficulty, it felt harder.
Also, now the developers have added crafting components a lot like in the Resident Evil village. Even though we failed to find that shotgun in one of those houses, we managed to get through. The bell rang, and everyone left. And one of the most significant things that return is Leon’s “Where’s everyone going? Bingo?” dialogue.
