Missing the iconic Max Payne? Hopefully, not for long, because Remedy Entertainment might have just dropped a big hint for the long-awaited revival. Well, at least the fans believe so. A character that appeared in Alan Wake 2 has left the fans reminiscing about the action-hero. Apparently, there are many reasons that have made the fans confident in the Max Payne teaser theory!

Alan Wake 2 is currently enjoying the gaming limelight, having ended the thirteen-year-long wait for the survival horror sequel. As a label, Alan Wake has been among the most celebrated horror games of all time. Now, the sequels just add to the colossal legacy of Remedy’s creations. However, the feeling of going back to some hardcore early days is always special. But sometimes theories sound ‘too good to be true’. Here’s why Alan Wake 2 players are concluding the presence of a Max Payne Easter egg in the story.

Players who have played Alan Wake 2 might recall meeting Saga Anderson and her accomplice Alex Casey. Both the FBI agents play a significant role in defining the narrative of the sequel. Dodging all the possible spoilers, here’s what makes Alex Casey the big source of the Max Payne theories.

If you felt some ‘Déjà vu’ looking at Alex Casey, you’re not the only one. Sam Lake, the face model of Alex Casey, was also the face of the protagonist Max Payne for the first game in the trilogy. Sam Lake was also the writer of the games Max Payne 1 and 2. Moreover, Casey in Alan Wake 2 is also voiced by the same actor James McCaffrey, who voiced Max Payne in the original franchise. A character that looks and sounds like the iconic action superstar and is also in law enforcement, all these attributes were enough to fuel some fascinating fan theories.

It is important to note that there’s no official nod to the fact that Alex Casey is indeed a tribute or a tease to Max Payne. However, there’s no denying the fact that the look, the stature, and the dialogues make the fans feel like an alternative universe’s Max Payne. Most importantly, it’s the obvious connection with Sam lake and James McCaffrey. Also, the timeline of the reference might suit the developers, as Remedy confirmed planning a remake of Max Payne 1 & 2.

All that’s official for the Max Payne Remake

One of the major reasons fans believe Remedy couldn’t directly tease the character in Alan Wake 2 is the issue with rights. The rights of the classic third-person shooter franchise are shared with Rockstar Games.

Earlier in 2022, Remedy had confirmed the plan to remake Max Payne 1 & 2 in a single title through an agreement with Rockstar Games. The Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala, in a press release in April 2022 said, “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action, and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”

Sam Lake also spoke about the remake in an interview with VGC where he stated, “It is a significant undertaking in the sense that even if they are old games, just thinking about bringing them up to modern standards and combining them into one, you can see that it’s a big, big project.”
