Dedicated gamers go beyond their capabilities to do something incredible just for the love of the game. Be it taking part in a Call of Duty tournament by connecting the whole setup with the car battery in case of power cuts or developing a whole new remake of your favorite game when the main developing company is paying no heed.
A similar phenomenon happened when a talented developer made a new remake of the classic ‘The Simpsons: Hit and Run’. Although it’s unsure if the fan-made remake will release publicly, it has to be proof of the gamer’s obsession with the game. Let’s delve into it and explore every aspect of the remake.

The Simpsons: Hit and Run game was released in 2003. Radical Entertainment developed this open-world game. This game had an open-world setting heavily inspired by the then-released GTA 3. The game quickly gathered a huge player base because of its engaging gameplay and the ability to play as their beloved characters from the popular TV series “The Simpsons.” Despite its enormous success and clamor from the fans, Activision (which acquired Radical Entertainment in 2008) never considered a remake or remastered version of this iconic game. That’s why this talented developer came in and did what they failed to do.
This developer’s name is Reubs. The indie developer is a YouTuber who has made remakes of several games. This man developed The Simpsons: Hit and Run Remake from scratch, which is based on the modern Unreal Engine 5. In the 10 videos on his YouTube channel, Reubs has showcased his hard work to put a classic old game into the modern framework structure of UE5. He also described a step-by-step process of how he made the remake, from bringing characters to adding VR to the game. And as a result of it, The Simpsons: Hit and Run Remake comes out with seven full-fledged missions, playable features like roaming on foot or by car, sampled audio dialogues from the classic characters, and lots more.
Nevertheless, Reubs had to face some serious obstacles during development.
Copyright and the challenge of public release
Although fans are happy with the remake of this nostalgic game, the sad part is that they won’t be able to play it. In this remake, the grim reality of copyright issues looms. The use of copyrighted and intellectual assets might be a reason for legal action from Activision. There can also be a risk of a DMCA takedown. That’s why this game will never be on any public server as long as Activision gives it proper recognition. So, as of now, the game will be a private project for Reubs.

Although there won’t be any public publication of this game, Reubs has gathered love and praise from the fans. Even the Senior Designer of the original game, Joe McGinn, has applauded this amazing work by saying, “Amazing what you accomplished! Really gives a taste of what a full modern remaster could be. Impressive work!”
The remake of The Simpsons: Hit and Run made by talented indie developer Reubs might not be available to be play but the love and support he has gotten by doing this will surely give a shake to Activision to make a remake on their own and pay heed to the fans wishes.
