The competitive scene for CS2 is new territory for all players. The game has some drastic changes that reset the playing field. Most players who have played the game since CS:GO or earlier have to relearn many aspects of the game. Although not everything is brand new, several mechanics have even pro players starting from 0 to understand. The new game brings in a new meta and as the game continues to be live, there will be more changes. With the change in meta, many new players are looking to get into the eSports side of CS2.

CS2, meanwhile, is not only set to attract new pro players but also invite some old timers to return. One of the most popular eSports teams that featured big names like Tarik could be returning to the CS scene.

NRG, an American eSports organization, is considering re-entering the Counter-Strike scene after a hiatus of four years. NRG has not finalized their plans yet, but has a core team concept in mind. Independent sources initially reported NRG’s interest in forming a Counter-Strike team. When contacted for comment, NRG confirmed their exploration of a return to CS. However, they emphasized that no contracts have been signed, and no terms have been agreed upon.

NRG currently has active teams in other games. VALORANT and League of Legends are its current projects with teams in Rocket League and Overwatch previously under the San Francisco Shock banner. NRG last had a Counter-Strike roster in 2019, featuring players like Tarik, Brehze, Ethan, Stanislaw, CeRq, and Chet. This roster achieved a high ranking of No. 3 globally.

NRG left the Counter-Strike scene by selling their team to Evil Geniuses for a rumored price of $3 million. The roster peaked at No. 1 with Evil Geniuses and won ESL One New York 2019 and StarSeries i-League Season 8. NRG co-owner Andy Miller, in a Reddit AMA, described the sale of their Counter-Strike team as “gut-wrenching” and expressed NRG’s desire to return to the CS scene someday and it looks like CS2 is where it will be happening.
