After much anticipation, Nintendo has revealed the titular Nintendo Direct for 2022. Aimed for Wednesday, February 9, the show will have a runtime of 40 minutes and focus on Nintendo Switch games launching in the first half of 2022. Notably, this is the first Direct of the year and will focus on multiple games.

Fans have their eyes peeled for any hints about their favorite games. Some of the awaited titles, like Splatoon 3 and Bayonetta 3, have a lot of hype surrounding them. But few titles come close to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 in terms of how much the fans want the game. And this Nintendo Direct might be the event where players finally get an update on the future of the franchise.

All hints point to Zelda

In a video uploaded by YouTube channel ‘SwitchForce’, the host puts forth his thoughts on the upcoming Direct and why, according to them, this Wednesday could see a huge reveal about BOTW 2.

Notably, SwitchForce states that fans have not received major updates on what Nintendo has been working on lately. In their own words.

“They’ve talked about Breath of the Wild 2 since 2019. They’ve talked about Bayonetta 3—it feels like—since Bayonetta 2. And they’ve talked about Splatoon 3 even for almost a year now,” they said. “And we definitely don’t have release dates for any of the games I just mentioned.”

There are several eligible titles that could make for a massive announcement, like Mario Kart 9 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but one likely candidate is BOTW 2. Players have seen little in the way of updates since the gameplay reveal in 2021, and this might be the perfect time to satiate those fans with some new information.

SwitchForce elaborates, drawing notice to Nintendo’s recent financial report that gave fans hope about BOTW 2 releasing in 2022. They said tomorrow is “a really good shot” fans would get an update on the title. Additionally, they speculate Mario Kart 9 could be saved for a massive occasion like E3, making Nintendo Direct the perfect occasion to reveal something about Link’s next adventure.
