THROWBACK: When former ski racer Lindsey Vonn Vignette advertised Steep launch on PlayStation 4
Steep is an open-world action sports game featuring skiing, wingsuit flying, snowboarding, and para-gliding. Surprisingly, for the promotion video of Steep’s launch, Ubisoft featured a famous entity, Lindsey Vonn Vignette.
In her career, Vonn has totaled three Olympic medals. She earned a gold medal in downhill and bronze in the super-G at the 2010 Vancouver Games, and earn another bronze medal in the downhill at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.

During the video, she discussed her love for ski racing. She said, “I love what I do. I’m not afraid. You have worked your entire life for those few seconds. That thrill is very exciting, and that’s why I love ski racing. I like the adrenaline. I like going fast. You know, I crash a lot, but I am ready to risk everything.”
Indeed, Vonn’s appearance helped Ubisoft a lot in promoting its extreme sports video game title as it sold 175,935 units first week at retail. Furthermore, breaking down the sales by platform, the game sold best on the PlayStation 4 with sold (69%), compared to 54,768 units sold on the Xbox One (31%).
