One of the most well-known video game series in gaming history is Pokemon. After all, this video game franchise has been around for nearly three decades, spanning over nine generations of Pokemon games. The latest installment in this series is Pokemon Scarlet and Violet for the Nintendo Switch.

Scarlet and Violet revolve around a young trainer who sets on a journey across Paldea. On this journey, the trainer tries to catch various Pokemon and overcome obstacles to become the Champion. But every player needs to make the most challenging choice to start this journey, selecting the starter Pokemon.

Like every Pokemon game, Scarlet and Violet also feature three starter Pokemon: Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly. All these starters have their own strengths and weaknesses. Further, all of them evolve into strong Pokemon.

3. Sprigatito (Grass-type Pokemon)

If someone is a cat-lover, the Grass-type starter Sprigatito might catch their attention. But this “Grass Cat Pokemon” can put the players on the Victory Road route at a disadvantage. It is weak against the Bug and Grass-type Gym, the best gyms to fight early on. However, this Pokemon gives an advantage on the Path of Legends route.

As for the stats, Sprigatito is the fastest with 65-Speed and has a decent physical offense with 61-Attack. But once again its typing creates trouble, as having most weaknesses, taking double damage from Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug-type. Moreover, its Grass-type move pool isn’t that impressive too.

Sprigatito evolves into Floragato after reaching Level 16. The latter then evolves into Meowscarada at Level 36. The final evolution of Sprigatito also gets a secondary type, Dark-type, making it immune against Psychic-type. It also gets access to strong Dark-type moves. However, it also develops a four-time weakness against Bug-type.

2. Quaxly (Water-type Pokemon)

Don’t let that stylish hair and small look fool anyone. The Water-type starter Quaxly might be a great choice to start the game if players want to follow the Starfall Street route. However, this “Duckling Pokemon” might not be the greatest choice for Victory Road, as it is weak against two of the early gyms, the Grass and Electric-type ones.

Quaxly has the best physical stats among all the starters with a 65-Attack. Further, it also has 50-Speed and 55-HP. As for the type coverage, it might be the best, only being weak against Electric and Grass-type. Also, choosing Quaxly gives access to some powerful Water-type moves like Surf and Hydro Pump.

This “Duckling Pokemon” evolves into Quaxwell at Level 16, which later evolves into Quaquaval at Level 36. It also gets a secondary typing with the final evolution, which is Fighting-type, giving it access to strong Fighting-type moves. However, Quaxly’s final evolution develops weaknesses against Flying, Psychic, and Fairy-type.

1. Fuecoco (Fire-type Pokemon)

A player can never go wrong with the Fire-type starters across all Pokemon generations. Further, this starter is the best choice for Victory Road, giving it an advantage over most Gyms. Although, it might not be the best option to face Path of Legends and Starfall Street early on.

Fuecoco is the slowest Paldea starter, but it also has a total stat of 310 like the other two starters. But this Fire-type Pokemon has an impressive 67-HP and 63-Special Attack. It also has access to strong Fire-type moves. However, it also has some disadvantages against the Water, Ground, and Rock-type.

This Fire-type starter at Level 16 evolves into Crocalor, and its final evolution is Skeledirge at Level 36. The Final evolution of Fuecoco is a Fire/Gost-type, making it immune to Normal and Fighting-type. But it also becomes vulnerable to Dark and Ghost-type. Further, Skeledirge has a strong Ghost-type move pool beside the classic Fire-type.

This is all the information a player would need to choose the starter in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. However, this choice differs for every player depending on many factors. Sometimes players choose their starter based on their likeness to a specific Pokemon’s typing or simply on its appearance.
