One specific genre has become massively successful in gaming: first-person shooters. Running around shooting enemies from the eyes of the player is a popular video game genre. However, a lot of early games that kicked off the series originated from a title known as Quake. The Quake engine quickly popularised FPS games, and it seems the Quake franchise is set to make a comeback in a big way!
Earlier today, news broke of a Quake game being developed in South Korea. While there is no confirmation that the title is Quake 2 Remasters, there is a strong chance of it being true.
Quake 2 comes back for gamers

The original Quake was a massive hit among fans. It allowed players to run around and shoot at enemies, similar to another FPS Doom. It quickly became a classic, with people playing the original game to this day. However, it was not long before Quake got a remaster.
The news came about an unannounced title receiving its rating in South Korea. Now, you may think how does this mean it is Quake 2, let alone any game from the Quake franchise? To give context, the body that rated this unannounced title was the same one that rated Quake Remastered.
Moreover, what adds to the speculation is that QuakeCon is coming up in less than two months. In 2021, when the body rated Quake Remastered, it did so in a similar fashion. They rated the game right before QuakeCon. At QuakeCon 2021, id Software Quake Remastered for gamers. At the time, Bethesda’s idea for the remaster was to release it as a form of tribute to the game’s 25th anniversary.

Similarly, QuakeCon will be returning as an in-person event. The event is even more significant as QuakeCon was a digital-only event for the past three years. As a result, there are strong chances of Quake 2 Remaster being announced this year. However, it is yet to be confirmed. There is no word from the developers.
What can fans expect?
Based on the way Quake Remastered turned out, there are several upgrades coming to the title. Firstly, the remaster of the first game saw support for widescreens as well as compatibility for 4K resolution on compatible models. In addition to this, it featured dynamic lighting, anti-aliasing, enhanced models, and many features that make the game visually pleasing.
