The popularity of backward compatibility has risen drastically in recent times and this has made console developers increasingly incorporate this feature into their latest consoles- be it PlayStations or Xbox. For those who aren’t aware of what this feature is, backward compatibility allows consoles to run games from the previous generation consoles into the newer ones. Let’s find out which console runs games best with backwards compatibility.
Xbox has more edge in terms of backwards compatibility than PlayStation
Backward Compatibility is one of the biggest selling points for Xbox consoles due to the plethora of new and old games available in its library. Xbox allows users to play some of their oldest games right from the generation of the original Xbox and this retains their fanbase loyal to them. The PS5, on the other hand, is just backwards compatible with PS4, which is a huge drawback when compared with Xbox.

Xbox will allow players to play the oldest of the games in their library. In March, all PS1 games were made unavailable after PS3, PSP, and PS Vita stopped Legacy services. Xbox on the other hand lets users go back to its first generation of games even with their next-generation consoles. Xbox allows users to relive their nostalgia and make use of the huge catalog of available games.
Xbox has around 568 Xbox 360 and 39 Xbox original games in its library. In recent news, Microsoft is brought back some of the classic games such as the first two Max Paynes, Red Dead Revolver, and Manhunt. This was speculated through listings in the Xbox Game Library that showed their release dates.

All the above elements indeed make Xbox’s backward compatibility program much more superior than PlayStation. Although both the consoles are mammoth in terms of running the latest games in their best quality, Xbox steals the show for bringing in nostalgic appeal for the community and allowing them to experience the classic games anytime they want.
