Popular Screenwriter Reveals How He Changed Dr Dre’s “I Don’t Make Things For Kids” Stance For Massive GTA Online Project

Grand Theft Auto franchise has been on the top across the past 2 decades and it refuses to step its foot off the gas. Although Rockstar Games has surprisingly dialed down the frequency of sequels with GTA V being the latest entry as it prepares to complete a decade. Fans do know that GTA VI is being worked on secretly behind closed doors but till then flawless DLC like ‘The Contract’, ‘The Cayo Perico Heist’, and more are keeping the community entertained.

Speaking of which, it wasn’t easy to get Dr Dre on board the project, as he doesn’t have any prior experience with the industry. At first, the musician turned the studio down, but thankfully, record producer DJ Pooh’s help brought everything together.

BET, even DJ Pooh was turned down by Dre in the beginning. I mean, I was surprised I got him to do The Wash, but he had already promised me that so he couldn’t back out. But the answer was initially no because Dre’s not a gamer. He just didn’t play any of the games. It’s not like he dislikes them or something, he just didn’t play them. He was like I don’t make things for kids.”

However, a gaming session with DJ Pooh changed his outlook on the industry and what it offers. Dre was simply charmed by GTA franchise and it embedded the seeds of this collaboration.

“He was blown away. He didn’t know you could do all this stuff — all the layers of gameplay that people are calling the metaverse, but it’s doper than that.”

Dr could not believe what he was witnessing, and it turned the tide in Rockstar’s favor, DJ Pooh added,

“He was like, ‘This shit is awesome,’ and he’s seeing me driving around in a lowrider. We out here putting different rims on the car, getting in a shootout, hanging out with my friends, I got a girlfriend – all that!”

Glad, Dre realized the true potential of the project and decided to offer his support. This iconic collaboration could serve as a gateway for more opportunities that can be explored.
