The NPD Group, which is a market research organization based in the United States, has released the latest data and statistics on US Video Games Consumer Spend. They have noted that in the first month of 2022, i.e., January, the total spending declined 2% vs YA despite hardware growth of 25%.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus has emerged to become the bestselling game for January
As seen from the above tweet, Pokemon Legends: Arceus became the best-selling game in January according to the data released by The NPD Group. The game has joined the likes of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, standing on number 11 within the best-selling titles chart for the month.

Nintendo America has tweeted that the Pokemon Legends: Arceus has sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide just within its first week of release.

This is quite a record on its own given the fact that the game has pushed way past the mark of Pokemon Sword and Shield, which had sold 6 million copies in its first week, according to CNET. One of the most interesting things to note is that the title has also become the second best-selling Nintendo Switch game ever as reported by Silliconera.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus was developed with the intention of creating an experimental game that would allow players to explore an open-world environment. Players may still acquire Pokemon without battling (albeit, this time, they must use stealth rather than just tossing Poke Balls into a dwindling ring).
The game also has a semi-open world experience that promotes exploration. Legends: Arceus may lack many of the characteristics of a Pokemon title, such as Gyms and competitive multiplayer, yet the game has garnered positive reviews and is on track to outsell Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee!

The game is well set to become one of the most legendary editions within the Pokemon franchise.
