The PlayStation 5 just became the fastest selling console in United States history. To add to this, it has broken this record in terms of both unit and dollar sales. The fact that the PlayStation 5 has been out for only six months only accentuates Sony’s remarkable achievement.

The console initially released on November 12, 2020, and sold out in seconds at retailers like Amazon and BestBuy. New features and the revolutionary Dualsense 5 controller are only part of the reason for this. Sony’s Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki said, “We expect PS5’s high demand to continue into next fiscal year and will do our best to meet that demand, we will make efforts to secure enough materials.”

This shortage cannot be blamed solely on Sony, as it has also affected industries aside from the gaming industry. Despite the shortage of materials, Sony continues to have ambitious goals.
