PlayStation is known for its amazing story-driven single-player games like God of War, Horizon, Spider-Man, Last of Us, and many more. The console has always been open-hearted about publishing single-player games.

Though PlayStation hasn’t stopped believing in offline single-player games, the market has definitely shifted in the past years. Online games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, Overwatch, and Among Us have been topping the charts for quite some time. So it is quite obvious that some doubts arise among fans about the future of single-player games.

Recently, in an interview, the Studio head of PlayStation, Herman Hulst expressed his thoughts about the single-player narrative-driven games and their future in the company. He gave some insights about what fans can expect in the upcoming years. 

What did the head of PlayStation say about single-player games? 

Over the last few years, fans have witnessed some great single-player titles from PlayStation like The Last Of Us, Bloodborne, Marvel’s Spider-Man, God Of War, Ghost Of Tsushima, and Horizon Zero Dawn. That gave us an idea of what good video game narratives look like. But as the multiplayer scene is getting more and more attention, the future of single-player seemed a little uncertain.

But recently, in an interview with Axios PlayStation Studio Head Herman Hulst has acknowledged that, though the company is trying to “diversify,” the single-player games are here to stay. 

Hulst said, “We have a history and a reputation for building these incredible narrative-driven single-player games, such as The Last of Us and Horizon and the upcoming God of War Ragnarok.” 

He also stated that single-player games are one of the best sellers for the company. He said, “Some of our biggest titles in the single player narrative-driven space are also our most profitable titles.”

Upcoming Single Player game on PS4 and PS5 

The biggest upcoming single-player game on PlayStation currently is God of War: Ragnarok. It is an action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is scheduled to be released worldwide on November 9, 2022, for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

The game is witnessing some massive hype from the community, as the previous game was beloved by fans and critics. This anticipation for a single-player story-driven is proving that the genre is still far from being dead.
