One Piece is one of the most famous anime series in the world, based on Eiichiro Oda’s Japanese manga series of the same name. The series’ popularity led to many video game adaptations. Odyssey is the upcoming action RPG game based on this series, releasing on January 13, 2023.

Exploration and character actions in One Piece Odyssey

The new trailer revealed players that can explore the iconic places from the original anime show via World of Memory or Memoria. In the latest trailer, we saw Luffy and his crew revisiting Alabasta through Memoria. Further, fans might have an open-world experience besides the main plot. They can freely explore the game’s primary setting on the mysterious Warford island and the iconic places through Memoria.

As for character control, each character would have unique field action during exploration, like switching into Copper from Luffy to fit into small spaces. Also, the Straw Hat members’ special field actions and skills would require solving different side missions. The game will also feature many conversations between Straw hat crew members that they usually do in the show. The game also has Bounty Hunts, besides various side missions.

Now it’s time for the action!

The game features an encounter system to get into the battle screen. As for the battle, this game features a turn-based system. Further, the game has three battle types: power, speed, and technique. So, the damage inflicted on the enemy will also be based on its type and the attack move’s type. Those who have played games like Pokemon would understand these mechanics better.

The game would also feature Scramble Area Battles, where the Straw Hat Pirates would be scattered to different areas. Then the characters would fight individual battles for survival. The characters also have skills like Copper can use his skills to regenerate his crew’s health while in combat. Meanwhile, Nami’s long-range attacks can also damage enemies in the other areas fighting her crew mates.

Players would also have access to items during a battle that they can use to increase health or other attributes. The character can use the item for themselves or give it to their crew mate. The game also has a feature, Dramatic Scene, where a random combat sequence gets unlocked when a character meets a particular requirement.
