The massive success of the PlayStation 5 is pushing Sony to introduce more features to the platform. With Xbox pushing its subscription service harder than ever before, Sony has stepped up to the occasion. While Sony has been in the lead in this console war, Xbox has pushed hard to catch up. Now it’s Sony’s move.

Although PSN has been around since 2010, there have been many changes to the subscription service. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate changed the game by offering players hundred plus games. And now, Sony has made their move. What used to be known as Sony’s cash-grab service for letting players play games online has now come a long way.

Sony is introducing cloud streaming for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) gaming console. This feature will be available to PlayStation Plus Premium members. Subscribers will have access to various supported PS5 titles through cloud streaming. These include games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, Game Trials, and games that members own from the PS5 library.

Sony plans to offer hundreds of PS5 titles through cloud streaming, including some popular hits. Notable games include Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, Mortal Kombat 11, and Saints Row IV.

PS5 Game Trials will also be available for cloud streaming. This allows members to try out games like Hogwarts Legacy, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and The Calisto Protocol without downloading them.

Cloud streaming will support downloadable content (DLC) and in-game purchases. This means that members can enjoy additional game content, similar to traditional downloads. While all this is huge for PlayStation Premium users, there’s a lot more to come.

More features coming for PlayStation Plus Premium

Some other features that are coming to the PlayStation Plus Premium include subscribers being able to choose from multiple resolution options, including 4K, 1440p, 1080p, and 720p, with support for both SDR and HDR output. The service also offers 60 frames per second (FPS) gameplay.

Cloud streaming provides enhanced audio, supporting all the PS5’s audio capabilities, including 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, as well as Tempest 3D Audiotech. Players can capture screenshots and record up to 3 minutes of video while gaming. These captures will be accessible in their Media Gallery on the PS5 and the PS App.

The rollout of PS5 cloud streaming will happen in phases and regionally. The target launch dates are :

  • Japan: October 17
