PlayStation has been very active this year in bolstering its team of first-party developers. Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, and Media Molecule are just some of the names on the team. Recently, PlayStation acquired Housemarque since the Finnish developer recently worked on the PS5 exclusive, Returnal, this acquisition makes sense.

Now, PlayStation Studios seems to have added Bluepoint Games to its arsenal of developers. When revealing the official announcement of their deal with Housemarque, PlayStation accidentally released a picture displaying the acquisition of Bluepoint Games. As a result, the gaming community has gone into a frenzy.

Bluepoint describes itself as a company that focuses on “delivering the highest quality remasters and remakes in the industry.” Some of their most notable works include remasters of Gravity Rush, Shadow of the Colossus, and Demon’s Souls.  According to its website, their current project will be their biggest one yet and it “aims to define the visual benchmark for the next generation of gaming hardware.”

Rumors regarding PlayStation’s acquisition first surfaced last year. However, neither party made any official announcement. Sony will be hosting their gaming presentation called “State of Play”. The event is rumored to happen in the coming weeks and is supposed to feature a big announcement from Sony.

What are PlayStation Studios working on in 2021?

Sony’s incredible team of 14 developers is currently hard at work on many fronts. Polyphony Digital, best known for creating Sony’s flagship racing franchise, Gran Turismo, is said to be working on the 7th installment of the game. Furthermore, Little Big Planet developer Media Molecule is working on Dream. Recently acquire Housemarque is also coming off of the release of Returnal which was a hit.

PlayStation Studio has a tonne of enjoyable first-party single-player titles. The company is now looking to bolster its collection of multiplayer games with Guerilla Games and others rumored to be working on multiplayer titles. Considering we are in a pandemic, Sony has some lofty ambitions for 2021. It will be exciting to see how they go about achieving their objective.
