Sony surprised everyone with their announcement of Helldivers 2. The existence of this game surely came as a surprise. A very dark and mature first installment was released years ago, and it was very popular but not very successful.

It looks like Sony’s push into multiplayer live service-esque games starts with this title. The trailers for this game are insanely polished, and for anyone wondering, it will be launched for PlayStation 5 and PC. Recently, a rumor even dropped a big hint at the launch date of this title!

The Helldivers 2 launch date might be closer than anyone might have expected!

The first Helldivers was a revelation to many; the game was a very interesting twist on the usual co-op titles of that era. The fact that developers and publishers decided to bring it to PlayStation 4, Vita, PS3, and PC made it evident that the game was meant to be played cooperatively.

It was not a third-person shooter, though; it was a top-down shooter that played like Killzone Liberation. And it was a moderate success; it garnered cult status and a fanbase that still plays that game to this day.

Years later, Sony and developer Arrowhead Game Studios saw an opportunity in the live-service game market and decided to drop a sequel. A game that takes many inspirations from the recently launched Risk of Rain 2. That game too went from a 2D side-scrolling game to a third-person shooter. And Helldivers 2 is doing the same. And it’s looking better for it; many are getting some Remnant vibes from it, but they are, of course, two different games.

For fans awaiting the launch of this title, it will not be a long wait either. According to Insider Gaming, this title will launch in October 2023.

It’s strange timing if this date is current because Sony is launching one more title in October, Spider-Man 2. It would not be hard for people to simply choose the superhero sequel and ignore Helldivers in case that happened.

And let’s be honest, a live service title needs all the attention it can get at its launch. That’s how they create a player base. Here’s hoping Sony and Arrowhead have a good launch plan for this title. It would be a shame if such a unique title ended up going unnoticed.
