Gone are the days when getting a PlayStation 5 used to be a quest on its own. Due to a shortage of supply in the initial years, PS5 could not expand its user base at the speed it wanted. Another factor in low sales was the Covid-19 outbreak.
But PlayStation 5 did not let all these factors stop it. With a lot of word-of-mouth publicity and the vast library of games released for PS5, they kept their sales consistently high. And now Sony’s PlayStation 5 has set an industry standard with the amount of sales done.
PlayStation 5 sets record in console sales

Sony recently released their financial reports, and the data concerning to PlayStation 5 had many fans surprised. They reported a sale of whopping 6.3 million units in the first three months of 2023. This has set the record for the biggest Q1 for any console in history.

This has all been thanks to the hype Sony has been creating for the imminent PlayStation Showcase. However, the sales of software took a considerable hit.
They sold only 68 million units of software on both PS4 and PS5 combined. This was down 2.5 million units from the Q1 of last year. This might change with the reports of new titles gearing for launch this year, the most awaited one being Spider-Man 2.
Sony is looking at Spider-Man 2 to increase sales
Sony has mostly depended on first-party game titles to carry the console sales. The Last of Us and God of War are proof of this. Now with the rumors of PlayStation Showcase coming in May/June this year, Sony is sure to launch many third-party and first-party games.

Currently, the two most awaited titles for release definitely are Spider-Man 2 and Mortal Kombat 12. Both these titles are rumored to be delivered at the PlayStation Showcase. While Insomniac Games has asked fans to wait a bit longer for the sequel, Mortal Kombat 12 was slated for release this year. And according to fresh rumors, it will be launched at the Showcase.
