Sony Interactive Entertainment has postponed the general sale of its PlayStation 5 covers till March 2022. Now those colored faceplates are only available to purchase off PlayStation Direct. The console maker had previously announced that two of the widely popular colored faceplates, Midnight Black and Cosmic Red, would go on sale in other stores from today (February 18, 2022).

But unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore as Sony has now decided to postpone this much-awaited release till March 2022. Both the US and UK PlayStation Direct stores updated their product info to announce the delay.

Sony delayed the release of console covers for PlayStation 5

For the UK PlayStation store, now the listing for those two covers reads (as reported by VGC), “on general release from 2nd March.” However, the US store appears to be getting it even later than the UK. The listing for Midnight Black and Cosmic Red now reads. “Available from us now, available 3/31 elsewhere.”

The covers are not even listed for pre-orders in other popular PS5 retailers such as Gamestop and Amazon. The main reason behind this sudden delay hasn’t been revealed by Sony yet.
