Minecraft is undoubtedly a massive brand, and Microsoft has done everything in its power to expand it in several new directions. Everyone is aware of the Minecraft Story Mode game by Telltales. And then came a title called Minecraft Dungeons, which turned out to be much more popular than anyone could have anticipated. However, despite its success, fans have been met with disappointing news regarding its future.
Minecraft Dungeons was developed by Mojang Studios and Double Eleven. This game is a dungeon crawler inspired by Diablo games but set in the world of Minecraft. It was a massive success when it launched back in 2020. However, it looks like its developers have decided to move on from it after delivering a slew of expansions and updates to it. And understandably, longtime fans of the game took to X (formerly Twitter) to let their feelings be known.

The developers of Minecraft Dungeons recently wrote a message to their fans on the official Minecraft website. In this message, they explained how the game has passed a milestone of 25 million unique players. This is quite an achievement for a game that diverts so much from its original idea. For those unaware, Minecraft Dungeons is a Diablo-like dungeon crawler where players explore dungeons from an overhead perspective and follow a linear story, unlike the original Minecraft.
This message also mentioned that the most recent update for it, which was version 1.17, would be the last update it would be getting. They would be leaving the game behind and moving on to other projects.
The message says, “As 1.17 was Minecraft Dungeons’ final update, our team has now moved on to new projects that continue to explore experiences in the Minecraft universe. This means that there are no new features or content updates planned for the game.”

It sounds like they are working on some new spin-offs set in the Minecraft universe. It can even be a sequel to Minecraft Dungeons, which would be incredible. This makes it even more logical for the developer to stop working on Minecraft Dungeons.
And let’s be honest here: the game is almost three years old now. After this much time, games often lose support from their developers. Hence, if nothing else, it is highly commendable that Mojang has supported it till this moment.
Fans have a very polarizing response to this message
While the developers of Minecraft Dungeon move onto new projects, the fans of the title have a very polarizing response. Some are indifferent to this news, while others are disappointed and confused as to why this game is losing support even though it has hit that 25 million player mark.
One user mentioned he played this game with his 8-year-old, stressing on the fact that in every form, Minecraft remains the ultimate game that families can play together.
Played with my 8 year old, he loved it!

Another user expressed disappointment in the fact that the game is losing all the support.
Great. Just a shame it's not going to be supported anymore. Really liked the game.

One user gave a unique reply. She stated the developers should create a Kart racing game based on the Minecraft franchise next.
They NEED to make a kart racing game. i would die

Another user, seemingly a seasoned player of Minecraft Dungeons, mentioned spending over a whopping 100 hours in the game.
Really cool game, put over 100h into it mainly in couch co-op.

While the fans everywhere are understandably disappointed, they must remember that the game still works and can be played. Support ending only means it would not receive any more expansions, which had to happen someday.
