Nintendo‘s recent Pikmin game was a massive hit. This fourth main installment in the Pikmin franchise was recently released on the 21st of July. However, Pikmin 4‘s success outperformed their previous games. Nintendo’s real-time strategy game brought the custom playable character for the first time in the franchise. Now following this new game input, fans totally gave thumbs up to Pikmin 4.
Now, this game has reached a new record for the franchise. The latest sales report really dropped the bomb on Pikmin fans by showing an extravagant response from Japan. Venturing into the world of beautiful creatures, Pikmin 4 surely kept its promise to give a one-of-a-kind gaming experience for the fans.
Did Pikmin 4 outperform its successors in Japan?

The answer is yes. Recently Famitsu magazine confirmed that after releasing, Pikmin 4 ruled the market in Japan. It became one of the highest-selling games in Japan. Famitsu added that on 23rd July, 401,853 copies of the game were sold in Japan. It is an incredible number for the Pikmin franchise. Following this Famitsu revealed that Pikmin 4 sold more copies than any other games of the franchise. In their defense, they also gave a detailed report of how many copies of other Pikmin games were sold compared to this latest one.
In this comparison report, Famitsu disclosed that the first ever Pikmin game sold 101,299 copies in its debut release week, whereas, Pikmin 2 had 161,930 copies of the game sold. Pikmin 3 sold 92,720 copies. Looking at this report, fans can easily conclude Pikmin 4 is the ruling game of the franchise.
Famitsu’s analysis is completely based on the games’ physical copies sold in the market. They didn’t include digital copies of the Pikmin games in this analysis. These sales statistics were probably a part of Japan’s widespread advertising campaign for Pikmin 4. Now looking at Pikmin 4’s success, it seemed that this campaign was totally worth the hard work.

Nintendo has been confident about Pikmin 4 since its release. Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s chief spoke about the game in detail, which revealed his love for the franchise. Miyamoto even concluded Pikmin characters are more global than fans’ favorite Mario. Miyamoto also spoke about the teams’ hard work on easing the initial difficulty fans faced in the gameplay.
