When GTA San Andreas was released in 2004, it was a smash hit right out the gate. Fans were buying copies of the game in a frenzy, making it one of the most successful titles of the series. It was also the best selling game in 2004. Looking at the success it had attained in the past, Meta decided to bring it on their Quest devices. In 2021, Meta announced GTA: San Andreas VR, a game being made specifically for Meta Quest 2.

However, after two years, there is still no sign of the title. Many fans of the metaverse were eagerly awaiting the title from Rockstar games to come along with their VR headsets. However, Meta confirmed there are no updates on a possible release date for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR. When asked during Connect 2023, a Meta spokesperson said to Road to VR, “We don’t have any updates to share on GTA: San Andreas VR.”

This has led many industry insiders to believe the game is officially in development hell. The statement from Meta, however, does not state that the game is canceled. This means fans looking to enjoy GTA San Andreas on their Quest headsets should not lose hope. If the game is not out this year, there are chances it will be next year. But many fans have started to call out Rockstar Games for delaying their titles, with them taking their sweet time to develop GTA 6 and now GTA: San Andreas VR.

Funnily enough, the delay in developing those titles has reached a point that Meta has unveiled Meta Quest 3. So it looks like when GTA: San Andreas VR gets out, it will probably be coming for both Quest 2 and Quest 3. Although there is a delay in the development of the title, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two claims more VR versions of games are in development. And this has led fans to hope for a GTA 6 VR.

Is there hope for GTA 6 VR despite the delay in San Andreas VR?

The words of Take-Two’s CEO have ignited a new theory in the hearts of fans. During the earnings call of 2022, Zelnick stated the company is focusing on developing more VR versions too. However, there has been a delay in both the PC and VR versions of their titles. Looking at the growing unrest among the public, it will be a piece of great news if Rockstar Games announces GTA 6 VR.

And they could easily transition their other GTA and Red Dead titles to VR too. But only if the reception they get is a favorable one. At this moment, however, the devs at Rockstar will be hard at work in finishing GTA 6. However, if the devs release the San Andreas VR before GTA 6, they could buy themselves some grace period. Fans and critics will be busy analyzing the first entry of the GTA series in VR. This will leave Rockstar devs a chance to enhance and build upon GTA 6 more.

Meanwhile, it should be noted games on VR are as expensive as they come. On the other hand, the PC and console game for GTA 6 is also going to be expensive. So Rockstar Games can refrain from converting their biggest title to date to VR. However, the scales can tip in the other direction too if the reception of the title is a grand one. Looking at the hype surrounding the title, it is sure to be a stellar release.
