The Last of Us Lead Actor Bella Ramsey shows support for Joel’s controversial decision and Season 1 ending
The first season concluded at the exact same point as the original video game. Joel chooses Ellie over the future of humanity by saving Ellie from the Fireflies, who wanted to operate on her in the hopes of producing a vaccine for the infection. Though it was concerted that the operation will kill Ellie in the hopes of saving humanity.
The Finale showcases the growth of the ‘Father-Daughter relationship’ between Joel and Ellie compared to Episode 1. Although Joel giving up everything to save Ellie was indeed heartwarming, some fans didn’t agree with his decision. This led to several controversies on the show’s ending, despite it being the same as the video game.
Not to mention, several actors and HBO showrunners have already supported the TV Series’ ending. Now Bella Ramsey has also stepped in the favour of Joel’s decision. In an interview with Vanity, Bella came across a fan’s opinion on why Joel’s last decision wasn’t selfish.

They mentioned that Joel sacrificing Ellie wasn’t worth saving humanity. Episode 8 showcased the evil side of humanity and why a simple cure from Cordyceps wasn’t enough to save humanity. He decided to follow his heart and save Ellie from her cruel fate to sacrifice herself to save humanity.
Bella Ramsey totally agreed with the fan’s opinion and showed support for Season 1 ending. She said, “True. Period. That episode with David and Ellie shows that humans are far scarier and capable of, like, far worse damage. Because they also know what they are doing. Cordyceps are much more instinctive.”
