What Shroud said has surprised a lot of people, as common belief suggests a gamer’s career enters the twilight stage as they cross the 30-year mark.

Shroud believes passion is everything

Shroud has been involved in the gaming industry for a long time now. And having been a pro player, he understands what it takes to play games on a competitive level. From his perspective, much of what drives gamers to play competitively is the passion to get better at video games and win. “Passion is literally everything,” he emphasizes.

And Shroud, being the veteran he is, acknowledges that with age, reaction time increases. And he has taken that into account as well. He believes the only reason someone would quit professionally playing video games early is because adult life is too distracting. People change as time passes and they grow older. Their priorities change. And with these changes, they lose the passion to play professionally.

He acknowledges that if someone started playing professionally late in their life, they would probably struggle to play at a high level when they’re 50. “If you were starting early, say 16/17 playing professionally and you played professionally until you were 50, you’re still going to be playing at a high level,” he drives the point home.
