Overwatch 2 rolled out its season 2 on December 6, 2022. The patch brought dramatic changes to current heroes and added a new tank hero Ramattra into the pool. The expectations and emotions that awaited the second season of the hero’s first-person shooter were tremendously high.

But the initial response by the community towards the new patch is under a dark cloud. Many players felt discomfort with the new patch after playing it. The factors that spurred these emotions, according to fans, are mainly due to the rank reset system and the lack of attention given to the Support hero category.

Overwatch 2 “Ignored” Support Heroes

The December 2022 patch that Blizzard Entertainment brought for Overwatch 2 made numerous changes. Doomfist and Sojourn received the most changes, while other heroes received minor adjustments.

However, the Support Hero players are disappointed with the amount of nerfs that Kiriko received. The idea of a ‘Battle Mercy’ is considered ridiculed by the support player community. It is not to say that the pistol upgrades are bad, they are helpful to counter flanks. But, the essence of being a support is getting narrowed through nerfs.

Kitsune Rush, which is a strong part of Kiriko’s kit, has been hit hard and many players feel that it affects the pace of the game. Fan expectations were affected by the changes that support heroes received. And when compared to the other categories, the support hero category did not receive the expected changes.

Rank reset has left the fans disappointed

Like almost all multiplayer games, Overwatch 2 also brought in rank refresh at season end. The rank decay system of the game has left the community with mixed emotions. Overwatch 2 follows a unique rank-determination system.

As each rank update happens after seven wins or 20 losses, the system that determines your end-of-season rank varies. That is, if you haven’t reached the needed rank update criteria, Overwatch draws your end-of-season rank through the number of matches you played after your recent rank update.

This has left the Overwatch community confused and disappointed. To explain these rules further, Overwatch also posted an official statement stating the criteria that affect the end-of-season rank.

Apart from these changes, a few bugs also have popped up that have affected the players. Reports of Hanzo’s animation bug, where his full charge blow flicks his bow up, are creating discomfort for Hanzo’s mains. These would mostly be sorted out soon. Season 2 changes have shaken the community, but it is hoped that they will be able to adapt to the new patch’s significant changes.
