So it was only apparent that the sequel to such a massive and loved game would have huge shoes to fill. The weight of expectations from Overwatch 2 was very heavy. The fans were waiting for years to get their hands on the next installment of the series. But unfortunately, they were met with disappointment as the sequel to the beloved multiplayer FPS faced some massive problems on its very first day, making the game almost unplayable.

How did Overwatch 2 become unplayable on the launch day?

Undoubtedly, the player base of Overwatch is massive. And they have been waiting for the sequel for a long time, so it was obvious that high amounts of players will be trying to get into the matchmaking lobbies on the launch day. But the devs may have failed in estimating the number of players that will join on the first day. With the overwhelming number of players, the queues for the lobbies become enormous. According to the fans, some have witnessed lobbies with more than 50,000+ players waiting ahead of them.

But that’s not it, on the launch Overwatch 2 has also been under a mass “DDoS attack”. According to Mike Ybarra aka @Qwik on Twitter, due to a mass DDoS attack on the servers, the teams have to work very hard to mitigate the issue. This is the reason behind the connection issues in the lobbies.

DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) is a category of malicious cyber-attacks that hackers or cybercriminals employ in order to make an online service, network resource, or host machine unavailable to its intended users on the Internet. And in this case, the attack is affecting the matchmaker of Overwatch 2. Making the players unable to find lobbies.

How did Fans React to these issues?

Fans are very disappointed, they have been waiting for so long. And when they finally got the chance to play the game, they couldn’t even connect to a single match. So obviously, fans didn’t take this very well, they expressed their anger on social media. But some fans supported the game, as they understood that mistakes can happen.
