The new game brought with it a new reward system that was foreign to the Overwatch community. There were season rewards and battle passes in the game. Moreover, a game currency was also introduced by the developers. This means that almost everyone has a similar course of item availability, unlike lootboxes.
According to Jared Neuss, Executive producer of Overwatch 2, the reward system might get a new look from season 3. This change is a response to the criticism the current reward system got from the community.

What will be the new addition?
This is yet unclear, and there have been no rumors or leaks regarding these. A battle pass like Activision’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 or Warzone 2 would be a good addition to Overwatch. In those games, players are given the option to forge a path to their desired items.
