Recently, a marketing strategy attempted by the NFL’s official social media handle on X and Instagram left the internet divided. While some fans had thrashed the sporting brand for cashing in on Swift’s popularity, some were delighted.
Jimmy Donaldson aka MrBeast, through an unfiltered tweet, expressed the importance of such marketing in sporting events. Well, if the YouTube King has advice for marketing, you take notes. Also, MrBeast’s tweet sparked an interesting speculation about him being a member of the Taylor Swift fan club!
Taking his opinion to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “They should keep leaning into it. Every time she trends on Twitter I notice the Chiefs are playing and tune in. Only games outside of the Super Bowl I’ve ever watched lol.”

The controversy can be traced back to a simple marketing tactic NFL’s social media handles had applied cash in on Taylor Swift’s appearance. While the singer had attended the match to support her rumored boyfriend Travis Kelce, the NFL took the opportunity to get some limelight from Swifties.

They had changed their official Instagram bio to “chiefs are 2-0 as Swifties” and their X feature images to Taylor Swift’s snaps from the match. All these steps were subjected to a massive backlash by some NFL fans. Eventually, the Swifties reference was removed from the handle.
