An infamous hacker group has recently claimed to be on the verge of making the very first breakthrough in the process of jailbreaking the latest Sony console. It looks like somehow they have managed to get one step closer to cracking the highly important security measures of the PlayStation 5.

They announced this “major milestone” with a tweet that reads: “Another one bites the dust along.” There was a picture attached to the caption that served as proof.

The proof is a screenshot of PlayStation 5  root keys. This viral news got confirmed in a follow-up tweet that reads, “Translation–we got all (symmetric) PS5 root keys. They can all be obtained from software – including per-console root key if you look hard enough.”

The fail0verflow group was the first hacker group to bypass all the security measures of PlayStation 3 way back in 2010.

The hackers also highlighted the point that Sony Interactive Entertainment won’t be able to reverse this with any kind of system update now. They have the root key and now they can easily decrypt files, including the extremely important firmware.

Basically, now the hackers have all the freedom to reverse engineer it and find more ways to run unassigned code on the PlayStation 5. Definitely, this matter is something to worry about, and Sony has to find the solution before it’s too late.

PlayStation 5 security measures

What the hackers have managed to do is quite an accomplishment for them since finding the root key of a console is quite alarming and not exactly easy. However, it’s important to remember that this doesn’t really mean that the PlayStation 5 has been compromised fully or that the hackers have bypassed all the security levels.

The hackers have just cracked the first level, and there are other strong security measures in place to keep them from causing any more damage.

Sony Interactive Entertainment hasn’t really said anything regarding the whole incident yet.
