Gamers generally consider themselves a very close-knit community. Fans look forward to events and tournaments where they can bond with their comrades from across the globe. Such events also attract a lot of attention from the media. However, a recent European event was disrupted by environmental activists, and fans, especially Tekken 7 connoisseurs, aren’t happy with the program being halted due to outside influences.
Eurogamer Expo (EGX) is one of the biggest gaming conventions in Europe and attracts fans from everywhere. However, it didn’t go too well. During the Tekken 7 Winners Finals, environmental activists took to the stage and wreaked havoc for the competitors.

EGX London is the hub of the UK gaming community. The EGX Arena is a coveted land for gamers who love showing off their skills and want to see their name on top of the leaderboards. After a few dismal years, fans were excited as the organizers announced the event would be back in full swing this year. While the event was packed with programs, the Tekken 7 tournament was one of the highlights of this year’s EGX.
However, as the Tekken 7 finals were on, Just Stop Oil activists took to the stage to voice their opinions against the ongoing environmental crisis. As part of their protest, three activists smeared orange paint across the equipment, forcing the players to halt the action.
The Tekken 7 Final competitors looked clueless and had no other option but to give up on their efforts to win the match.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. In one such incident, member of the group previously threw soup on Van Gogh’s Sunflowers at a London art gallery. So after the latest incident, one user believes if Just Stop Oil took a different approach, maybe they’d have more support for their cause.
I honestly think, if you’d had a stand at EGX to talk to people, you would of raised far more awareness and gained far more support from people attending the convention, than this.
Idk maybe I’m wrong though. 🤷🏻♀️

Another fan thinks these actions have only caused financial harm to people, and being “more mature” would actually help their cause.
You know if you acted in a more mature way, and actually spoke to people, you’d see you have people on your side. This is just making people see you as the bad guys! The amount of financial cost you have caused to innocent people, hard working people, people who would probably…

This fan was clearly not happy abou this. EGX2023’s Tekken 7 Finals event wasn’t the place for such a demonstration.

Meanwhile, one fan had a different view. They joked that the activists were “misunderstood Die-Hard Tekken Fans.”

Another gamer thinks this was a bad call since many gamers are young and actually care for the environment.
why did u target a gaming event where most people are young, very liberal and on your side? bad call.
piss off the government and big corporations, get them to do something. don't go for gamers and piss every day people off.— Slumpii (@ItsSlumpii) October 15, 2023
