With Netflix’s ‘The Last of Us’ earning 24 Emmy nominations in one go, creator Craig Mazin’s happiness knows no bounds. It shows that the adaptation is on the right track. In a recent interview, Mazin dissected his plans and preparations for fans’ reactions to the events of the show’s second season.

The jury’s still out on who’ll win the Emmy and we won’t know until the event in September. But with The Last of Us Season 2’s script in the works and filming expected to start later this year, impending casting decisions are only the first of many that fans might dispute. It seems Craig Mazin is more concerned about blowback for story changes this time around, though.

Amidst celebrating the show’s two dozen nominations, Mazin spoke about plans for season 2. “I’m never gonna say there are things that are gonna happen in the show that happened in the game,” he promised before delving into the shock factor of season 2.

The Emmy-nominated writer and director confirmed, “There are things that will shock people, things that were in the game, things that were not in the game, and that’s okay.” But he emphasized how he and his team are committed to writing the story the way they think it should be told, rather than writing it to create social media fear. Mazin went on to explain how his hands are tied when it comes to the outcome of Season 2.

But he is firm in his choice to surprise people who have played the game while retaining the show’s original charm.
