The 13 year wait for Alan Wake 2 is finally over. Players looking to continue their journey through the disturbed mind of the protagonist now face a new twist. Players will not only get to play the game as Alan Wake, but also take on the role of Saga Anderson. The premise of the new game remains similar to the original one while bringing in an overhaul of graphics and gameplay mechanics.

While the game dropped on online stores across platforms like PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S, the devs have given no sign of a physical copy. Nowadays, going digital is the new norm, with players being able to directly download the game from the online stores. This has led to studios cutting costs of creating disks and box art covers. However, this comes as disappointing news to any collector who prefers to have physical copies. As many players dive into the mind of Alan Wake, some others are waiting for the drop of physical copies.

While the game’s launch has been a success, the devs have announced that they have no plans to release a physical version.

As for why there’s no physical release, the makers have answered the question. The game’s FAQs state the following:

  • “many players have shifted to digital only. You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is a digital only console. It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital-only.”
  • “not releasing a disc helps keep the price of the game at $59.99 / €59.99 and the PC version at $49.99 / €49.99.”
  • “did not want to ship a disc product and have it require a download for the game — we do not think this would make for a great experience either.”

So going by their explanation, they are doing this for the benefit of players as well as to keep up with the trends. They also clarified that as of now, there is no plan to release a physical version. But how do players feel about this?

Gamers are holding back from buying the digital copy

Fans of the series are hoping for the devs to announce a physical version of the game. Many are going forward to delay the experience until the studio releases a physical copy.

One user loves the art so much, they’re struggling to understand why there is no physical edition.

One fan speculated that the devs might release a physical copy of the game alongside a possible DLC as the “complete edition”.

Another gamer shared that they are not in a hurry to play the game, as they have other titles to indulge in. As they are a fan of collecting physical copies, the player plans to pick the game up once the disk is released.

The feeling was shared among many in the community, with most stating that they would wait for the physical edition.
