It’s been 7 months since Hogwarts Legacy was released for the PC, Series X, S, and Xbox. At the time of the launch, Hogwarts Legacy reached the number 1 spot on the UK Boxed Charts. The UK Boxed Charts ranks games according to the sales of the game in the given week.

Although last week Starfield stood at the first position the week of its launch, Hogwarts Legacy made a comeback at rank 1 just a week later. Other highly anticipated titles like Trombone Champ, The Crew Motorfest, Dune: Spice Wars, F-Zero 99, and more were released on September 14th. This news came as an absolute surprise for the community as none of these titles made it to the number 1 spot with The Crew Motorfest coming in at a close second. That being said, fans are wondering how Hogwarts Legacy jumped back to rank one after being 7th on the list last week.

The UK Boxed Charts for the week ending September 16th, 2023, show some significant changes, with Hogwarts Legacy reclaiming the No.1 spot and Starfield dropping to No.8. This was due to a remarkable 214% increase in sales on the Xbox Series X and S platform. Hogwarts Legacy started seeing a spike in sales after its promotional price drop, making it easier for more games to pick a copy of the game.

While Starfield was at the number 1 position last week, it made a significant drop to number 8 this week. According to the reports, the sales for Starfield decreased by 87% since its launch, which is a substantial decline. The release of The Crew Motorfest made its debut at number 2 on the charts this week. This ranking is quite interesting considering the predecessor of the game, The Crew 2, did the same when it launched back in 2018.

While the successful indie game, Fae Farm held its ground at No.9 despite a 12% sales dip, indicating a steady second week. Red Dead Redemption 2 climbed from No.14 to No.10, due to its Xbox One price promotions.

This shows how the pricing of games does make a huge impact on sales as many players wait for the price to drop before investing in a title. While many players love to get the game on its release date, or even get early access by pre-ordering it, other players just want a good deal. With this divide in the community’s spending habits, where do you stand?
