The Nintendo Switch is six years old, and it appears this console will be entering its seventh year with a strong impression. The console is still selling well and is home to some of the most successful video game titles ever. Even though people keep talking about its diminishing graphical power and outdated hardware, fans are not willing to let it go.

Nintendo too seems to just want to keep going; the company has its successor in hand, according to numerous rumors. Yet, they refuse to even discuss it for the time being. But something interesting recently slipped from the mouth of Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa.

The Nintendo Switch successor would allow for a smooth transition via the “Nintendo Account” system!

When gamers shift from their older consoles to a new generation, they obviously have to leave a lot behind. This happened when fans had to leave their PlayStation 3 games behind after the launch of the PlayStation 4. Sony learned its lesson and allowed PS4 games on the PlayStation 5.

The same goes for Xbox consoles, but that is a great result. Those consoles have the ability to play Xbox 360 and original Xbox games. That too with improved visuals and sometimes even framerate.

Nintendo had been embracing backward compatibility for most of its consoles too. They had to give that thought up when they transitioned from the Wii U to the Switch. But this time around, Nintendo seems to have a bunch of things planned. Just so players do not find it hard to transition from their Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, mentioned during a shareholder meeting, “As for the transition from Nintendo Switch to the next generation machine, we want to do as much as possible in order to smoothly transition our customers while utilizing the Nintendo Account.”.

This simply means people with an activated Nintendo Switch account would find it much easier to transition to this new console. This might simply mean fans would be able to play their older games on this new and more powerful system.

Currently, all this discussion might simply be futile. Given the fact that Nintendo is only hinting at an upcoming console and not announcing anything. Whenever this console arrives, it appears Nintendo will be prepared to allow its fans a smooth transition.
