Nintendo Switch Users Are Getting an Insane New JRPG in 2023

Nintendo Switch is getting a new Japanese role-playing game almost every month now. Square Enix keeps releasing stunning games like Octopath traveler, Bravely Default, and games like Tactical Ogre. Atlus has recently released their trademark game Persona 5 Royale on Switch recently.

And there are numerous other games that are on their way to Nintendo Switch. But one of them is pretty unique.

A never before heard of game is making its way to Nintendo Switch in the USA

Sometimes publishers decide to release their RPG titles exclusively in Japan. Those games are released specifically in Japanese for internal reasons. But once they are either successful enough or gain enough popularity in other territories, they are then released in other regions too.

One such game is The Legend of Heroes Trails into Reverie, an action JRPG that was released for almost every platform back in 2020 in Japan. The game is finally making its way to the USA.

The game is your typical Japanese role-playing game with tactical turn-based combat mechanics. It also features something called crossroads; it allows players to switch between three different story arcs when they feel like it.

Also, each story arc features a different protagonist, the leader of Crossbell’s Special Support Section, Lloyd Bannings, the instructor of Class VII, Rean Schwarzer, and finally a mysterious masked figure who goes by the name “C”.

Other than these protagonists the game features around 50 playable characters. These might be the characters that players can add to their party.

Its story continues five months after that of Trails of Cold Steel IV. The announcement of its western release was made recently by NIS America. And the fans are super excited to finally be able to get their hands on this much-anticipated game.

Some are wondering if this delay was caused by the process of translating the whole game into English for western gamers. But the clear reason for its delay has not been revealed yet.

There are numerous JRPGs that have yet to touch western shores

There are numerous JRPGs that are still exclusive to Japan. They are yet to make their way to the systems in the USA. Games like Dragon Quest X, Mother 3, and a game called Shin Megami Tensei 2.

All these games have not been released in western markets for several reasons, sometimes the publisher just does not want to localize it. On other occasions the game’s subject is considered too controversial and sometimes the game is just not successful enough to justify localization.

The Legend of Heroes Trails into Reverie is releasing for almost every system including the Nintendo switch in July 2023.
