The Nintendo DS was a revolutionary console; the most distinctive part about it was its dual screens. They allowed developers to implement some interesting new gameplay mechanics in their titles. The console quickly became a success and gave way to a whole new library of games that utilized both a touch and a normal display. Nintendo 3Ds followed a similar formula, only it changed the upper display into a stereoscopic 3D display that allowed players to see 3D without the need for special glasses.

When the Nintendo Switch came, though, it only had one screen and did not follow up on Nintendo’s previous handheld consoles with their set of features. A new patent suggests Nintendo is going to do so this time around. They would include a dual-display design in this upcoming console that would even allow players to split it and play competitive games on individual displays, giving it a somewhat Kit-Kat-like anatomy.

It’s an exciting thing; this seems like an evolution of the co-op experience that the Nintendo Switch provided with its Joy-cons. While there’s no guarantee that this patent will translate into a real product as of yet, if it does, it would make for an interesting console.

This new feature would be a revolution for eSports on the go!

While a console with dual screens that players can split might not sound very interesting to some, it has a high potential of igniting the much-needed spark of eSports on the Nintendo Switch 2. Imagine playing a FIFA match on double displays on the same console. Or a fighting game like Street Fighter or Super Smash Bros.
