With only a day away from its release, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has become the talk of the town. It’s been six long years since the launch of the Nintendo Switch and it looks like the Japanese giant is not planning for a new-gen console any time soon. In a recent interview, Nintendo President and CEO, Shuntaro Furukawa, shoots down all the rumors about the new-gen Switch console.

On May 10, 2023, Nintendo released the contents of the Q&A session of the “Fiscal Year Ending March 31”. Interestingly, the President and CEO answered several questions involving the increased price for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the global hit Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Naturally, many fans are questioning Nintendo’s action of increasing price in comparison to TOTK’s predecessor. Other than that, there were several questions on Nintendo’s plan for the next-gen console. It’s already been six long years since the Nintendo Switch release and fans are wondering about its successor.
Moreover, there are tons of rumors about the next-gen Switch console spreading around the internet. Indeed, these rumors have hyped up the community and raised the bar for Nintendo. President Furukawa has finally given his take on the rumors, which only led to disappointment.
Unfortunately, Furukawa has shot down all the rumors about the next-gen Switch console in development. He answered, ” I don’t think there is a need to release a next-generation console.” Despite the rise in the annual number of players for Switch, it looks like Nintendo isn’t planning for a successor yet.

Moreover, as per Nintendo’s reports on the financial result of 2023, there’s a decline in the hardware sales ratio. Therefore, it would be better for the Japanese Giants to focus on Nintendo’s successor to compete with Xbox and PlayStation. Although Furukawa has declined the rumors about the next-gen console, he promises to continue various developments in the future.
